One Room Challenge: Final Reveal

I cried like the big baby I am during my pictures for many reasons. First, this room is very important to me and a reflection of my feelings during the current pandemic on Black Lives. These past months have been very overwhelming while I, too, find my voice in all of this. What do I say, what shouldn’t I say, and should it be said on my business platform or not? If I hadn’t learned anything else about my journey, the BEST things happen on the other side of fear. So I decided to express my voice in my One Room Challenge. If I only touch one person and move them to use their voice and passion to speak on the issues and/or do research on why this is so important, then I’ve done my part. For this space, I tried to use as many black owned businesses and will mention them throughout this article.

I’m the most proud of my growth in design. Did y’all see last week’s blog? The guest room before image! Very cookie cutter and safe. If not, take a look below. Now she’s Clare Paint - Sriracha Hot! This company has just been given the Beyonce stamp of approval in her latest song, Black Parade, that released on Juneteenth.

NOW, this room has so much character. It’s a statement room and a daily reminder to myself to keep on pushing forward in my dreams.

Now let’s get into these details!!

The first artist I incorporated, Sew Trill, is a personal favorite of mine. I’ve been following her for years and when I saw the “Black Lives Matter” Print, I Immediately purchased it. One-hundred percent of the proceeds from EVERY print purchased go to Campaign Zero and New Leaders. Campaign Zero is dedicated to ending police violence through reforming policies including excessive force, racial profiling, for profit policing & more. Would y’all believe it also came in an hour before my pictures 🤷🏽‍♀️?! Clearly I’m always playing it close, but it works out for my higher purpose.

Which brings me to the frames with multiple prints. If you have been following me for a while, you would know that last year I participated in the ASID show house and this is my canvas “wallpaper”. I couldn’t bring my heart to getting rid of it. I won my first Ruby Award from it! So thank you to my custom framer, Unique Arts, who cut and framed it for me. Surrounding those are quotes I relate to from African American women whom I admire as well as a button company named Inclusive Randomness who came into my life just at the right time. Things I was thinking on a button!

Thank you to Andonnia the Principal Artist & Founder of AnnLettered Art & Lettering for this beautiful painting which is a reminder that no matter what life throws at me I’m still dripping. She also did the Black Lives Matter Globe. They have been a great contribution to this project.

The One Room Challenge 2020 has taken me on a journey of self empowerment and professional growth. I’ve found my own voice and exhibited to myself the capacity that I have for excellence and social justice. I am grateful to be able to inspire others through my passions and every day I wake up to a life that I love!
