#HPMKT owes me nothing!

#HPMKT2021 owes me nothing! I was able to spend some time with the team, meet some wonderful new people, hang out with a few of my favorites, and personal reflect on my own design journey. My Mother and Grandmother—I Miss Them! They were extremely influential in how I got into design. After reflecting on our memories together, I was able to recall moments that forever made an impression on me and sparked my passion for design.

Mother’s Emerald Green Sofa & Carpet

Recently, I’ve traveled to #HPMKT and walked into a showroom that reminded me of my Grandmother aesthetic. There was this baby blue tufted sofa that reminded me of the Louis Shanks sofa in my grandmother’s living room and let me tell you, no one BUT her could sit on it😂 To take it a step further I could even smell the Estée Lauder Perfume she wore😳 which almost took me out! It brought back so many memories that I used to burry deep. Any who recalling another memory—A Silver tea set one my Grandmother owned that I was allowed to drink my coke-a-cola out of and another set that sat perfectly untouched in her China cabinet. My mother taught me the love for white walls which came along with the rule that ‘you better not touch them’! She also taught me color blocking with emerald carpet and the matching sofa set. They did a wonderful job in raising me and I’m glad to recall these memories. It’s because of them you have the designer you have today.

To all new designers following me; my message is to take the trip to #HPMKT. I don’t care if you don’t have any clients, because on my first visit I didn’t have any clients. Honestly, it wasn’t until my third visit did I have a client to shop for. Go!! Get inspired! Prepare for what’s to come!! Prepare for the clients you’re working hard to obtain. To help your planning purchase my eBook to help you navigate on a budget! As the saying goes your best investment is in oneself.
